dreams....
My hope is that the viewer will enjoy a glimpse of my visual “night flights”. Trying to describe a dream can be difficult as it's often illusive and encompasses many layers . Upon awaking from vivid dreams I make notes and sketches. The challenge is in translating them into a painting while illustrating that illusiveness and bringing it into focus. I use layering on and off of colors, textures and mediums .This is very much like the layers of a dream. The “scratching off” technique gives the feeling of being just on the other side of consciousness. Some of my reoccurring dreams are of "flights of fancy" inside rooms. Others are of seeking what is just out of reach in “the other room”. The “serotonin” series illustrates my waking in the early hours when the last days events seem to break into a million little pieces and float me calmly back into slumber.

mystics & fools...
These paintings exhibit a journey through the unusual and the interpretation of a fool as the Muse and artist.
A fool’s lack of experience in the ways of society is seen on the surface to be a disadvantage, but in reality it
ensures that his mind is not closed to the unusual or unique experiences that are denied the ordinary person.
As the artist I feel a connection to the fool, who exists on the fringe of organized life, going my own way,
ignoring any rules and taboos that might restrict creative daydreaming. While painting I am free to explore
alternate realities, not found in everyday life.
Most, but not all in this series are painted with pastels, acrylics, pure pigment and some mixed media, layered
to achieve various textures and vivid colors.
Sometimes the effects and emotions are natural gifts freely given by the medium to the Muse....and the Fool.
weeping fool
My personal sadness at the time shows in the expression of this fools eyes. Sometimes there are mysterious
interventions while painting. Near the eye appeared an unplanned raised form from the under painting in the
shape of a tear. That tear needed to be acknowledged.
mooncalf
This Jester was very dear to me and was giving up all of life's responsibilities to terminal illness.
Metallic gold balls represent all the heaviness of ones life, while the body language, eyes and flower are their
personal jest of what is to come.
guidance
What we need from those that love us is that soft embrace that guides us safely though this world and to the
next. My vision for this painting came to me upon awaking from an early morning dream .
This I believe was a special gift from the other side.

portraits....
I prefer to paint informal portraits, taking my own photos of the subject and then creating the painting in my
studio. Like the "michael" and "pickleman" portraits, the strong lighting allows me to play while still capturing
the likeness and personality of the subjects.

abstractions....
Doodling led to this recent series. There are more in the works. Like most people if there's a pen in hand,
while on the phone or in a meeting I aimlessly doodle. This allows me to pay close attention to the
conversation while my subconscious draws. Enlarging these scribbles I have many abstract possibilities to
explore. As in many of my other works, it's all about the layers, both in the mind and on the canvas.
cityscapes....
When I began these paintings, I was attracted to the shapes and colors of the structures. While the
buildings were different, the common theme was windows and doors with no visible life. Or was there?
They are all in places that I've lived or visited. By turning my photos into paintings I'm then able to
illustrate my personal sense of being there.
travel landscapes....
When the sun plays with it's shadows I'm inspired to paint.
These mountain paintings are my newest acrylic works.
While riding in the mountains of New England I randomly photographed through the car window.
What was captured was not only the natural scenery, but the power lines and the power of the sun as they
connected the mountain roads. My desire is to Illustrate these connections and infuse them with a colorful
mood.
florals....
The natural design of flowers is magical. That magic happens for me when I plant them, smell them, look
at them, pick them, arrange them, and especially when I get to paint them. Whether I paint them with
pastels, acrylics or watercolors, I feel an intimate relationship with beautiful blossoms.
